Little Harriet Minnette and Bubbe and Zaide

Our time visiting Harriet, Stephen and Christina, friends and family was too short for us. On the last day of our visit Stephen took us and Harriet Minnette along as he did an errand and rode around Minneapolis' lovely lakes and stopped at Harriet's name sake:
LAKE HARRIET.

You may note that while in her car seat my lovely granddaughter :-) was a very wide eyed six day (6) youngster, giving me all her attention. She already knows how to work her charms on me! I am totally under her spell!
As it should be!

ah, b-b-q-burgers and more reflections

i feel so lucky to have tom doing some cooking when time allows. today was a perfect end to a day of rest. i just watched as supper of yummy burgers, salad, fruit all came to me, but for the fried mushrooms and onion topping i made.

the brewers won, madison golfer stricker won so it was a good day for my favorites.

the rain just came again, no need to water the barrel garden or hanging plants tomorrow morning.

second week of second session of summer teaching and enjoying the students who are so interested in the making of art and doing their personal best. it is very relaxing to plan new things and watch how fast they catch on to choices for the day. i have tons of ideas and know i will run out of time not techniques, compositions or projects i demonstrate.

i started a work, a gift for stephen and christina that is challenging but love being engaged in something as personal as this mixed media art piece. when done will blog!

Bastille Days 7/10/10

A lovely day was had by all! Wonderful weather to walk for hours with dear friends and enjoy the food, seeing friends, and perusing the vendors wears. Of course We had beignetes, but did find healthier choices like grilled veggie kabobs and chicken roasted red peppers on foccacia sandwiches. Only think lack was that there was no day time music at the entire four hours we walked the area.

SID DID IT :SUV personalized for Laeh and Tom

We got our new SUV personalized with two stripes, black with a larger white. The company is called SID DID IT...and he did! Sid also personalized his work by signing it "Sid Did It for Laeh and Tom" above the gas tank. It is nice to be able to do this Tom for Father's Day gift!

keep pets safe and getting outside in tip top shape

we have much yard maintenance to do so we purchased an x-pen so bella and shayna can be out but not get into toxins.so far so good.

they can not get into the driveway coating. i can now use round-up on patio blocks and walks that are growing unwanted greenery.

as you see, they seem to like the containment area.

and i love that my driveway will look better and last longer.

First batch of the 2010 garden harvest season

today i harvested my first garden produce-a zucchini.
i doubled my recipe, and modified it some. i used egg beater's and splenda, also chopped dates, walnuts and pecans, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and crushed pineapple also.
they look good....hope they taste good!

i found a dinner drink other than water that is like sangria

I have never enjoyed the taste of anything but water, cocoa or chocolate milk...that is until i tried putting resling wine in with snapple diet cranberry-raspberry drink!

I CREATED A SANGRIA OF SORTS!
i ..m-m-m-m..i like the taste, i like the giggles!

Fun on the 4th Of July 2010 Celebration

Our 4th of July celebration started with rain but as is true in Wisconsin...wait a short while and it changes! And it did...so we resumed our plans and a fine time was had by all!
Our plans were to go to Lake Geneva late afternoon. Of course, we did a little shopping in the local shops before heading over to eat at our favorite restaurant called POPEYE'S. Most ordered the yummy specialty of chicken and ribs. We boarded THE LADY OF THE LAKE at 7:30 for a COCKTAIL CRUISE that featured a tour of the lake, information on the lake homes and their owners, and of course views of the fireworks close up and some far!
It was a perfect way to spend the 4th of July!

road trip to THERESA WISCONSIN

most who know me best know i have a toasted bagel that i put a slice of tomato on cheese and put it in the toaster oven to broil to perfection. so after breakfast, i administered
the monthly flee and heart worm meds., playing with bella and shayna, cage them and meet my good friend lisa.

lisa d. and i headed out to theresa, wi. to visit the WIDNER CHEESE FACTORY. they make my favorite brick cheese.
WE SAW
Cheesemakers dip the curd for Brick cheese by hand.
Cheesemakers pour curd into forms for Brick cheese.
Pressing the curd with bricks....and many other steps that are done later in the day.

near by was the summer home of Solomon Juneau, Founder of Milwaukee: the history of this home and theresa are interesting so here is the facts:
Solomon Juneau, a French Canadian, was born at L'Asumption, a small village near Montreal, Canada on August 9, 1793. A French trader, Juneau was named an authorized agent when the American Fur Company established a Trading Post in Milwaukee in 1818. He soon saw a future in Milwaukee and purchased the land between the Milwaukee River and Lake Michigan, platted it, and named it Juneau Town. He became the first postmaster and the first president of the Village of Milwaukee and in 1846 was elected the first mayor of the City of Milwaukee.
During his many trips between Milwaukee and Green Bay as a buyer for the American Fur Company, he was attracted to an Indian camping ground located on the east branch of the Rock River which was to become our village. Juneau established a Trading Post here in 1833 naming it Theresa in honor of his mother. In 1820 he married the granddaughter of Menomonee Indian Chief Ah-ke-ne-po-way and the couple had seventeen children, three dying in early youth. In 1847 he built this home, and it was used as a summer home until 1852 when he moved his family here from Milwaukee. Juneau had platted the village south of the Rock River in 1848, and was engaged in many business pursuits here. He had purchased the water rights and built a dam earlier to provide water power for his saw and grist mills. He also operated a general merchandise store and kept trading furs with the Indians.
Juneau's retirement to Theresa was short lived however, as his wife died in 1855 and he died a year later while making an Indian payment for the U. S. Government at the reservation at Keshena.
Some 700 Indians including Chiefs Oshkosh, Corrow, Larriet, and Keshena marched with his funeral bier to the burial grounds at the Keshena reservation. Later the body was returned to Milwaukee and buried at Calvary Cemetery.
The last home of Solomon Juneau was saved as a historical shrine by Joseph Gottwald, a forward-looking Theresa resident, who purchased it in 1932 when it was to be torn down, and later sold it to the village who moved it to the present site. The house stands some 200 feet from its first location and has the original clapboard siding. The windows have not been altered and the hand-carved spindles in the railing in the upstairs hall are as they were when the house was built in 1847.

... and of course you know i love Chinese food, so we stopped at a Chinese buffet for lunch.

i headed to teach my usually summer school classes at USM.

A GREAT DAY WAS HAD!
